HHow Hypnotherapy Works
A colleague of mine had a client who stopped her car in the fast
lane of a motorway and ran across three lanes of traffic because
a ladybird had appeared on her dashboard! The reason, they discovered
under hypnosis, was that something unspeakably awful had happened
to her when she was a child playing in a garden full of ladybirds.
The process by which hypnotherapists access these traumatic past
events is called "regression". In a regression, we guide
the unconscious mind back through the years to the event which it
knows is the cause of the phobia. By re-experiencing the event in
the safe environment of a therapy session, the client is able to
appreciate the fact that the event is now well in the past and that
there is no reason for it to continue to exercise its power.
We can't alter what people encounter in the world but we can alter
how they choose to respond.
